Introduction

The in vivo artificial inseminations (AIs) include intrauterine insemination (IUI), intracervical insemination (IUI), and intraperitoneal insemination (IPI).

The intrauterine insemination (IUI) is the most common method used in artificial insemination techniques.

Artificial insemination (AI) with partner’s sperm is an effective treatment of infertility for all causes in women under about age 45, except for patient with tubal obstruction, severe tubal damage, very poor oocyte quantity and quality, premature ovarian failure, or severe male factor.

The in vitro fertilization (IVF or “test tube baby technique”) with the woman’s eggs or donor’s eggs is an alternative for couples that are not suitable for in vivo artificial insemination.
